This field shows numerous acini (A) with their zymogenic cells containing acidophilic secretory granules. Their basal cytoplasm is strongly basophilic owing to the presence of ribosomes. Some acini contain lightly stained centroacinar cells (arrows). In the centre of the field is a longitudinal section of an intercalated duct lined with flattened epithelial cells (arrowheads).
