Mucosa of the small intestine (jejunum) of a monkey. This field shows several longitudinal sections of the bottom half of crypts of Lieberkühn next to the muscularis mucosa (M). Paneth cells (P) are present at the bottom of the crypts. The epithelial cells above are undifferentiated (arrows). These undifferentiated cells divide (arrowheads), renew and give rise to enterocytes, goblet cells and Paneth cells. Stain: H–E
