Gastric mucosa of a monkey.

This field shows the distribution of cells containing PAS-positive mucigen granules.

There are two types of mucous cells in the stomach: surface mucous cell (arrows) lining the pits and mucous neck cells (arrowheads) in the neck of the gastric glands.

At the base of the glands, the parietal and zymogenic cells are not stained with PAS.

The muscularis mucosa (M) is also indicated.
