Section of a cat lymph node exposed to an atmosphere rich in carbon particles.

The macrophages that have phagocytized the black carbon particles (arrows) are seen in the diffuse lymphatic tissue around the nodule.

The nodule shows a germinal centre (G) and a mantle (Ma). Nearby, a lymphatic sinus (*) is visible.
