Section of the superficial aspect of a human testis. This field shows a few seminiferous tubules (T) and a cluster of Leydig cells (L), along with a thick and dense layer of connective tissue, the tunica albuginea (Alb). This tunica corresponds to the capsule of the testis. At the surface of the testis (bottom) is a fluid-containing space, the vaginal cavity (*), delimited by two layers of mesothelial cells (arrows), one lining the tunica albuginea, the other lining the surrounding connective tissue. These mesothelia and the vaginal cavity are the elements of the tunica vaginalis. Stain: H–E
