15.33 Seminal vesicle and ampulla of the vas deferens

Section of a small portion of the seminal vesicle (top) and of the adjacent ampulla of the vas deferens (bottom).

Each seminal vesicle is a single large coiled gland. Note that the mucosa of the seminal vesicle above, which shows numerous large anastomotic folds, is similar to that of the ampulla below.

The muscular coat of the seminal vesicle (*), however, is distinctly thinner than that of the ampulla (+).
