16.44   Lactating mammary gland Version française
Section of a lactating mammary gland.

The field shows clusters of secretory alveoli forming lobules (*). These lobules are separated by connective tissue septae (stained green).

The sizes of the glandular acini or alveoli and the appearance of the secretory cells vary noticeably from one lobule to the other. This suggests that the secretory activity of the alveoli is not synchronized in a lactating mammary gland.

Stain: Masson’s Trichrome
Magnification: ×600
