The zona granulosa (ZG) is disorganized and composed of degenerating follicular or granulosa cells widely separated from each other and showing condensed or pyknotic nuclei (arrows).

In this zona granulosa some follicular or granulosa cells look normal and their nuclei are lightly stained (arrowhead) and similar to those seen in the adjacent normal primary multilaminar follicle (Pa-m).
