    16.29   Uterus Version française
Drawing of a longitudinal section of the uterus (above) and a three-dimensional drawing of the glands and vessels of the endometrium (bottom) along with the main arteries of the uterus.

In the endometrium the lamina propria, on top of the myometrium, is divided into two connective tissue zones: the basal layer, which is compact and permanent, and the superficial spongy layer, which is deciduous at the end of the endometrial cycle.

These two zones receive blood from different branches of the radial arterioles which come from the myometrium. The branches of the radial arterioles are (1) the basal arterioles limited to the basal zone and surrounding the bases of the uterine glands; and (2) the spiral arterioles irrigating the lamina propria of the superficial spongy zone between uterine glands.

These uterine glands are simple, tubular and convoluted.
