Lining the lamina propria (LP), the simple columnar epithelium is composed of ciliated (*) and of non-ciliated glandular cells (arrows).

While the ciliated cells show an acidophilic cytoplasmic plate at the base of the cilia, the non-ciliated glandular cells do not show such a cytoplasmic apical plate (see Figure 16.26).
