16.31   Follicular phase of the endometrial cycle Version française
Section of a human endometrium at the end of the follicular phase.

The uterine glands (G) with narrow lumina are widely dispersed in the superficial or spongy zone (+) of the mucosa.

In the lamina propria the more compact basal zone (*) can be distinguished from the superficial zone, although there is no clear borderline between these two zones.

The endometrium is applied to the myometrium (My) composed of interwoven bundles of smooth muscle fibres.
