Section of thick hairless skin.

In the connective tissue of the dermis next to the epidermis (E), the elongated segmented body (arrows) corresponds to a Meissner’s corpuscle involved in the sense of touch.

Encapsulated by connective tissue, the corpuscle is composed of modified Schwann cells between which one or more axons (not identifiable) follow a wavy path.
