Several sebaceous glands (+) are connected to the neck of the follicle. The duct of a sebaceous gland (*) opens into the lumen of the hair follicle. The reddish material seen above (arrow) corresponds to a tangential section of the cornified layer of the epidermis lining the mouth of the hair follicle.

A sweat gland (G) is also labelled.
