The skin is the protective and sensory tissue covering the external surfaces of the body. It is a quantitatively and functionally important system in immediate contact with the environment. It can be the object of direct visual observation. This chapter presents the histological characteristics of thick and thin skins of sebaceous glands and of two types of sweat glands. Also included is a detailed description of hair and of its formation.
