    18.21   Ciliary processes Version française
This field of ciliary processes shows several oblique sections of zonular fibres (Z), stained blue-black with iron hematoxylin.

These fibres are closely attached to the surface of the non-pigmented epithelial cells (S) of the ciliary processes.

The basal pigmented epithelial cells (P) are also identified.

The variable tensions on the zonular fibres transmitted to the lens, due to the contractions and relaxations of ciliary muscles, play an important role in visual accommodation.

Stain: Iron hematoxylin-E
Magnification: ×1000
