See Figure 18.10). This field includes some smooth muscle fibres of the ciliary body (C) and facing the anterior chamber of the eye (Ch), the trabecular meshwork (Tr). This meshwork shows interconnected spaces in the loose connective tissue. These spaces drain the aqueous humour of the anterior chamber of the eye and direct it into the canal of Schlemm (Sc). The canal of Schlemm, which is located around the circumference of the eye at the base of the iris, opens into veins. The base of the iris (Ir) is also labelled. Stain: H–E
