Thick section of a human bronchus.

A thick layer of mucus (*) is precipitated at the surface of the pseudostratified columnar epithelium (E).

In the underlying lamina propria, the thick layer stained black corresponds to transversely cut elastic fibres (El).

Elastic fibres oriented longitudinally are also present (arrows) in the deeper connective tissue.
