This section shows three obliquely cut fascicles of smooth muscle fibres (*) located in the wall of an alveolar duct at the entrance of the alveoli. Elastic fibres (red arrows) are present between the smooth muscle cells. Elastic fibres also extend into the alveolar walls (blue arrowheads). Stain: Iron hematoxylin-E
