The abundant elastic fibres are stained blue-black with Verhoeff's hematoxylin. This type of resilient cartilage is also present in the larynx. Note that the elastic fibres are abundant not only in the matrix of the cartilage but also in the perichondrium. In addition to elastic fibres, this cartilage matrix also contains collagen (type II) and acidic proteoglycans. Stain: Verhoeff
