8.17   Embryonic bone formation Version française
Early stage of bone formation of a flat bone from the skull of a pig embryo.

Interconnected trabecules of primary bone are present in the connective tissue. These trabecules show several osteocytes in lacunae embedded on a bone matrix that does not show a lamellar pattern. Such a primary type of bone is also referred to as woven bone. Along the trabecules there are osteoblasts which are sometimes separated from the intensely stained calcified bone by a layer of lightly stained, recently deposited unmineralized pre-bone.
