The bone is still mainly of the primary (woven) type, but a few areas of osteon formation are visible. This bone shows many irregular cavities containing connective tissue with osteoblasts lining the newly deposited lamellar bone. New bone is also evident on the periosteal surface (see Figure 8.16).
