Slice of an undercalcified compact bone.
This field is stained to show, in the bone lamellae, the fine canaliculi connected to the lacunae containing osteocytes. Such canaliculi contain fine cytoplasmic processes of osteocytes. These filiform cytoplasmic processes establish contacts between adjacent osteocytes.
