This field shows numerous fibrocytes and collagen fibres that form the periodontal ligament (L). These collagen fibres (blue arrowheads) are inserted in the basophilic acellular cementum (C) and in the bone matrix (*). The striations (arrowheads) in both cementum and bone are the sites of insertion of collagen. Osteocytes (O) in the bone and the dentin (D) are also labelled. Stain: H–E
