11.11 Gland of the oral cavity

Section of the posterior region of a tongue beyond the line of circumvallate papilla and proximal to the pharynx.

The submucosal gland shows mixed acini (see Figure 11.12) composed of both lightly stained mucous glandular cells (M) and more heavily stained serous glandular cells (S).

A small excretory duct of this gland is also seen (*).
