Section of a molar of a monkey.
The pulp cavity (P) is surrounded by the eosinophilic dentin of the crown (C) and of the root (R) of the tooth. The enamel capping the crown was dissolved during the preparation of the tissue. The limits of the crown are indicated by the arrows. The root of the tooth is deeply inserted in the bone of the mandible (+). A layer of dense connective tissue, or periodontal ligament (*), attaches the root of the tooth to the bone. In the alveolar bone, transverse sections of an artery (A) and a large nerve (N) are labelled. Stain: H–E
