Tip of a pyramid next to a calyx (*).
This field shows several papillary ducts (P) at a short distance from the tip of the papilla. The epithelium covering the tip of the pyramid, composed of two layers of cells, is of the transitional type (arrows). At the opposite side of the cavity of the calyx the epithelium is also transitional but is composed of several layers of epithelial cells (arrowheads). Stain: Masson’s Trichrome
