Section of the palate stained with Masson’s trichrome.
The dense connective tissue stains green. The stratified squamous epithelium (Epi) is tightly attached to a thick layer of interwoven connective tissue fibres composed mainly of collagen type I (C). The elastic fibres present here are not selectively stained. The nuclei of fibrocytes (F) are reddish. Some small vessels (V) are labelled. Stain: Masson’s Trichrome
