Whole mount of a rat mesentery stained with Masson’s trichrome and iron hematoxylin.
This preparation shows a few fibrocytes (F) with their branching cytoplasmic processes. A degranulating mast cell (MC) with a few secreted granules at proximity (red arrow) is also visible. Several intensely stained branching elastic fibres (E) and collagen ribbons (C), stained pale green, cross the field. Stain: Masson’s Trichrome
