14.30   Leydig cells of the testis Version française
Section of a group of Leydig cells from a human testis.

These polyhedral Leydig cells (arrows) with spherical nuclei are usually associated with capillaries (Ca). These capillaries drain the testosterone secreted by the Leydig cells.

These endocrine cells are in proximity to the seminiferous tubules, and their secreted testosterone stimulates the Sertoli cells present within the seminiferous tubules. The Sertoli cells, in turn, maintain spermatogenesis and male fertility.
