Section of a human adrenal cortex.

This cortex is subdivided into three poorly demarcated zones from the capsule (top) to the adrenal medulla (bottom).

These zones are the zona glomerulosa, the zona fasciculata and the zona reticularis.

In these three zones the glandular cells form clusters, plates or cords (the last two being radially arranged) separated from each other by networks of small vessels, capillaries, venules or venous sinuses, running in the connective tissue
