Section of a parathyroid (top) and of a few thyroid follicles (bottom) from a monkey.

The parathyroid is composed of anastomotic plates or cords of small glandular cells. Such plates, separated by a well-vascularized connective tissue, usually show double rows of glandular cells (arrows). All glandular cells face the connective tissue and the capillaries (C).

Also labelled are the follicular cells (arrowheads) around the colloid of adjacent thyroid follicles.
