Le centre du champ est occupé par une veine centrale en coupe transversale (*).

Cette veine est entourée par des cordons anastomosés d’hépatocytes (flèches). Ces cordons d’épatocytes sont séparés par les petits vaisseaux faiblement colorés appelés sinusoïds . Ces sinusoïdes transportent le sang de la périphérie des lobules vers la veine centrale.
