On observe une petite portion du lobe antérieur de l’hypophyse (pars distalis) (à gauche) et une partie du lobe postérieur de l’hypophyse (pars nervosa) (à droite).

Le lobe antérieur est composé de cordons ou de groupes irréguliers de cellules glandulaires séparés par du tissu conjonctif (*) contenant des petits vaisseaux (V).
