Stria vascularis of the cochlear duct of a rodent.
The stratified epithelium of the stria vascularis (SV) (see Figure 17.2) contains numerous capillaries (arrows). This epithelium is considered a site of production of the endolymph present within the membranous labyrinth. The stria vascularis is separated from the organ of Corti (bottom right, but outside of this field) by a connective tissue bulge, a spiral prominence (*) lined with a simple cuboidal epithelium (red arrowhead).
