Labelled in this field is an early neutrophilic myelocyte showing a large ovoid nucleus with a nucleolus. Its cytoplasm is basophilic but less so than that of the promyelocyte of Figure 7.16. It contains azurophilic granules and, in a pale juxtanuclear zone, some fine lightly acidophilic specific granules.
